Shining a light on the weekly Bible Lessons published in the Christian Science Quarterly®

I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.

Earlier, King David is described in similar terms: “He fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skilfulness of his hands” (Psalms 78:72).

Pastoring images recur throughout the Bible. An Israelite prophet depicts his people as “sheep that have not a shepherd” (I Kings 22:17). The prophet Ezekiel applies the pastoral motif to God’s shepherding of His people (see Ezekiel 34:11–31). In the New Testament, Christ Jesus defines his pastoring role when he calls himself “the good shepherd” (John 10:11).
