Hip pain healed
Soon after I retired several years ago, I began experiencing pain in my left hip. When standing, I would sometimes have to grab on to something stable for support. This usually happened whenever I was walking down stairs, which I did gingerly, and the condition was getting progressively worse.
At times, I was tempted to look for reasons for the difficulty, such as my age, weight, or the heavy gear that I had worn for many years in my profession. But as a Christian Scientist, I knew that this was not the path I needed to take to find a solution. Looking for a cause for pain—starting with matter as real and causative—doesn’t bring healing. The textbook of Christian Science says: “The Christian Scientist, understanding scientifically that all is Mind, commences with mental causation, the truth of being, to destroy the error. This corrective is an alterative, reaching to every part of the human system” (Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 423).
Through consciousness of Spirit, God, and not of matter, we understand the truth of our being—our spiritual origin and identity. We recognize God, Mind, as the only cause, and ourselves as divine Mind’s perfect effect, the expression of God’s being. This spiritual consciousness helps us realize our God-given dominion over ill health and anything else not good, meaning not from God.
