The commitment that blesses
Making commitments is a fact of life for most of us. We commit to relationships, purchases, even routes to work or school. Then we follow through, or at least try to.
At its base, commitment is the promise to take action. It’s generally thought of as vital to integrity, peace of mind, and mental health. Yet committing to something can sometimes feel impossible or frightening. What if the choice turns out to be wrong? Or there’s a better option we don’t know about? Or we just don’t feel ready to make a decision?
No matter what’s at stake, there’s one commitment that has no downside and that clarifies every smaller decision. It’s the resolve to place God at the center of our thought and experience. This kind of resolve may sound like a huge step. Yet it’s actually natural to us.
