Healed after falling off bike

Last summer, on a forest adventure holiday with our four youngest grandchildren, I was cycling downhill when I fell off my bike. My right side hit the ground hard, and there was excruciating pain from shoulder to leg. I didn’t feel able to get up. The common belief that mature people take longer to heal was nagging at me, along with the thought that I had made a foolish maneuver in shifting a bag on the handlebar while riding.

When two adventure park staff members approached to help, I found the strength to stand unaided beside the bike. They advised me to go to the medical emergency center for diagnosis and care, but since I had experienced many healings through prayer in Christian Science, I knew I had a choice of how to deal with this. I decided to trust God for healing and turned my thought to God in prayer straightaway.

In spite of a painful knee, leg, and shoulder, I mounted the bike and was able to cycle to our lodge, knowing that all-powerful God cannot fall, so in spiritual reality His child—His spiritual reflection—can’t fall either. A line from Psalm 91 came to mind and helped silence my fears: “[His angels] shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone” (verse 12). I prayerfully affirmed that God, divine Love, was upholding and protecting His creation and that therefore, my true being, my spiritual selfhood, could never fall or be hurt.
