Desire to drink alcohol disappears

At the time I first learned about Christian Science, I drank alcohol. I loved learning about Christian Science, but I did not at first know of the admonitions from the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, “Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise” (Proverbs 20:1), and, “It need not be added that the use of tobacco or intoxicating drinks is not in harmony with Christian Science” (Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 454). I do know, however, that my desire for alcohol fell away so quickly, so naturally, that I may have overlooked giving public gratitude for the healing until now.

When Christian Science first came into my life, the thought uppermost in my mind whenever I partook of alcohol was that I very much disliked the feeling of being blocked, even temporarily, from the newfound “high,” or inspiration, that came from knowing God, divine Truth and Love. I also resented the dulled sense perception that alcohol brought me, and imbibing it just lost all appeal.

My prayers to God prior to finding Christian Science had led me to something so needed in my life—something that was revealing a new, spiritual view of everything—that my uplifted, spiritual sense caused me to reject anything that would make me lose even one minute of perceiving (tasting) inspiration from God.
