Painful condition quickly healed

Early last year, just as I was going to bed one night, I began to feel what seemed to me to be the symptoms of passing a kidney stone. I contacted a Christian Science practitioner, who agreed to pray for me. Although it was difficult for me to pray for myself owing to the pain, there was one powerful thought that I held on to—a favorite statement from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy: “A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive” (p. 463).

I realized that what was offensive was not a tiny piece of matter, but just the thought, a suggestion, that there was a tiny piece of matter that could cause disorder, pain, or disfunction. Also, I acknowledged that divine Truth, God, could remove this offensive thought. Realizing that my identity is the reflection of Spirit, I understood myself to be a spiritual idea. Since God is Spirit and the infinite All, Spirit must be the only real substance. So, I held to the truth that there was no matter whatsoever involved in this experience, only a mistaken belief—an impossible error, a mere suggestion.

Christ Jesus practically and rationally dispelled the thought that any fruit of God’s creating could be both good and bad with the statement, “A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit” (Matthew 7:18).
