Is spiritual power relevant to political campaigns?

I’ve asked myself how my prayers might support the “best” candidates for a public office without my presuming to know who they are.

The realization has been emerging in my thought that there are spiritual forces or universal laws of good operating to govern all candidates. I’ve begun to recognize that my best contribution is to pray to realize the presence and primacy of these spiritual thought-forces and to better understand how candidates, and the election process, are benefited when our prayers acknowledge the operation of these spiritual laws.

A sentence from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures came to mind as an example of a spiritual truth and its accompanying effects based on God’s laws of goodness and harmony. With years of experience in presenting revolutionary ideas to skeptical and often hostile public audiences, Mary Baker Eddy, who discovered Christian Science, affirmed, “Right motives give pinions to thought, and strength and freedom to speech and action” (p. 454).
