A lifetime of healings
I’ve been a practicing Christian Scientist all my life, and I can gratefully look back on many healings of challenges related to my employment, health, relationships, safety, and more. Unhealthy thoughts of anger, aggravation, bitterness, resentment, and hatred have also been overcome, exchanged for thoughts of peace, love, patience, tolerance, and calmness. In each healing, there was a need for spiritual progress—for a deeper understanding and expression of God’s law of harmony.
Some of my healings were instantaneous, such as the time I was driving and realized I was starting to experience sore throat symptoms. I said two words out loud: “No way!” Behind this denial was an understanding of the unreality of sickness, based on the truth I had learned in Christian Science that God and His creation are spiritual and harmonious. Immediately, the soreness disappeared.
Other healings, though not instantaneous, were still quick. I remember rushing home from playing golf after I had twisted my back in such a way that it was impossible to stand up straight. Healing came from understanding the inspiring truth that I was entirely spiritual and perfect right then. I knew that any inharmony of the body was actually a false belief held in thought and not a real physical condition. I denied vigorously, authoritatively, and understandingly the belief that I could experience any kind of malfunction. I affirmed the impossibility of being separated from God’s all-embracing presence for even one second. I remember my joy after being released from the hold of this painful condition moments after proclaiming my innocence. I jumped around the room with such happiness, saying, “Thank you! Thank you, Father!”
