No more hip trouble
For a number of weeks I had been having difficulty sitting down and getting up because of stiffness and pain in one of my hips. During this time I was attending discussion group meetings organized by the branch Church of Christ, Scientist, where I was a member. We were reading through Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy and getting together on a regular basis to review and discuss the passages we had studied.
As I arrived home following one of these meetings, I thought, “Yes, I am obtaining dominion over my thinking. This stiffness and ache in my hip can and will be overcome!”
I recall feeling a gentle peace wash over me at that moment, and this statement from Science and Health came to me: “Spiritual living and blessedness are the only evidences, by which we can recognize true existence and feel the unspeakable peace which comes from an all-absorbing spiritual love” (p. 264). I repeated this passage to myself several times, considering its meaning. At the same time, I had a strong desire to just love unconditionally.
