Severe reaction to poison ivy healed
I grew up in a family in which my father was a director of hospitals his entire career. When I met a Christian Scientist in college and learned something about the theology and healing of Christian Science, I began to open up to a different approach to health.
Later, with Christian Science treatment from my college friend, I experienced both healing of an infection and, on a separate occasion, normalization of complications during childbirth (see “Truth found me,” Sentinel, February 19, 2018), and I learned that choosing God as the great Physician is safe and reliable. But I realized that there is an even more important reason to choose Christian Science healing, and that is the regeneration and redemption that come about in healing. Each time a person looks to God for healing, they rise higher in spiritual understanding and find out how to follow Christ Jesus more closely.
A healing in Christian Science never leaves a person where they were before. Here’s an example. One time, years after I became a fully practicing Christian Scientist, I was working in the yard cutting back brush. I grabbed onto a big vine to pull it off of a tree. Soon there were streaks of red on most of my body, and my face swelled out of proportion. The vine, I realized, was poison ivy. At the time, my husband was serving in the Army overseas. I was not only uncomfortable, but I was also feeling alone and afraid. However, since I had been relying on Christian Science for healing for years, I knew I could turn to God for healing in this case, too.
