‘Seek holy thoughts’
When our first child was about two years old, some close family members planned to visit for a weekend. My husband and I were not looking forward to this. Their son was a few years older than our son, and so rambunctious that we felt he should not be left alone with our child.
One night shortly before the visit, I was awakened out of a sound sleep. I saw the room filled with holy light, and heard a clear message: “Seek holy thoughts.” This powerful experience filled me with such ineffable joy, and I understood immediately that the message was meant for me.
My husband was asleep, unaware of what was taking place. I picked up my Christian Science Hymnal from the nightstand and went into the living room to read. The book fell open to Hymn 30, a setting of a poem titled “Love” by Mary Baker Eddy. There was a marker on the page because a few years earlier, when my husband and I married, we chose this hymn to be sung at our wedding.
