Healing of injury from a fall
For the last eight years, spiritual growth has been a big part of my regular extended visits to Panama. Each week of these trips begins with two to three hours of studying the current Bible Lesson from the Christian Science Quarterly, as well as articles from JSH-Online.com. As I continue to study the Bible Lesson throughout the week, my thoughts soar as my daily prayer to glorify God guides my day.
On Mondays, I usually continue my quiet time with God by hiking for four or more hours around the principal path that leads back into the small mountain town of Boquete. Soon after we arrived last year, while walking in a quiet, unpopulated area of the path, I fell and landed facedown in a deep ditch. For several minutes, I lay there quietly praying, declaring that God was the only power and that I was not guilty of doing anything wrong! Affirming that the divine law of Love outlaws any notion of chance, I became convinced that I could not be rejoicing in God’s amazing infinitude one moment, and then be a hopeless victim in a ditch the next. Deep down I knew that I could “rise up” and leave the entire experience right there in the ditch, because God did not cause it.
This freeing affirmation in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, which I had proved for myself years earlier through another healing, calmed my thought: “Accidents are unknown to God, or immortal Mind, and we must leave the mortal basis of belief and unite with the one Mind, in order to change the notion of chance to the proper sense of God’s unerring direction and thus bring out harmony” (p. 424).
