Debilitating pain healed
Last April, I felt a pain in my back. That day, while I studied Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures and the Manual of The Mother Church, both by Mary Baker Eddy, and Prose Works, a compilation of Mrs. Eddy’s other writings, I prayed to understand that the pain wasn’t real.
Man, being the image and likeness of God, can reflect only God. In the Gospel of John, Christ Jesus says, “God is a Spirit” (4:24). Christian Science understands that God is Spirit and that man is spiritual. As such, God is the life of man. And we know that God is never sick or in pain, so it is normal that I, too, would be free from pain or disease. The pain subsided.
In the morning, I went on with my daily activities. But then, as I went to bed I felt the pain again. This time, I felt very weak and feverish. Being unable to get out of bed, I prayed with every spiritual idea that came to mind. I prayed with the Lord’s Prayer, “the scientific statement of being” (Science and Health, p. 468), and the “Daily Prayer” from the Manual (see p. 41). The pain lessened again.
