Child’s intense discomfort healed
One day my daughter-in-law called and asked me to pray because my grandson had a headache and was in great discomfort. I asked her to put the little one on the phone so I could talk to him.
My grandson listened as I spoke to him. I asked, “Jonny, what did you learn in Sunday School last week?” He replied, “Gram, that God is everywhere.” I responded, in substance, “If God is everywhere and God is good, what seems like the presence of pain must be a lie—not true, not real. Now go lie down on your bed. I’m going to ask your mom to read you the Lord’s Prayer with its spiritual interpretation (see Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, pp. 16–17). I’d like you to call me back in one hour. OK? Put Mom back on the phone so I can tell her.”
After I hung up the phone, I asked God, “What is causing the pain?” Then I realized, “Wow—that’s the wrong question!” So I started over, sincerely reaching out to our Father and asking, “Father, what is it that I need to know about this little one?”
