Our role in changing the universe
Like many, I left university passionately wanting to help make the world a better place. But I saw so many issues crying out for improvement that I didn’t see how my efforts could make much difference.
So I was deeply grateful when a different basis for supporting progress was brought to my attention, through my being introduced to Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. This thought-provoking statement from this book stood out to me: “Eternal Truth is changing the universe” (p. 255).
In Christian Science, Truth is a synonym for the Divine. So this spiritual insight gives a wonderful sense of the potential for God to effect the change that we see is needed in the world around us. And as the Bible makes clear in describing the advent, or arrival, of Christ Jesus, the intent of Truth, God, is to bring peace and goodwill to humanity (see Luke 2:14).
