Healing of a gum abscess
In 1998 I had a gum abscess that was continually irritating me. The swelling and discharge had been going on for some time, and when I asked my dentist about it, he gave me a detailed description of a “leak,” or “deep decay,” shared its medical name, and said the only solution was a root canal and a crown. He was very concerned and wanted to show me pictures of the abscess to convince me of the seriousness of it, but I respectfully declined to look at any pictures of this condition.
I was actually amazed at my deep conviction that I should resist this diagnosis and treatment recommendation. I was absolutely sure the abscess could be healed in Christian Science, and I left the dentist’s office with a decision to get serious about treating the abscess metaphysically. As soon as I got home, I called a Christian Science practitioner for prayerful treatment.
The practitioner’s initial firm statement to me was that “there are no holes in your being.” This registered deeply with me, and I held to that thought as the guiding idea that would bring me healing. I realized that I had previously been consenting to many “holes” and “leaks” in my life—from job and financial losses to emotional losses and “leaks” or faults in my self-image.
