Our every need supplied by God

The key to meeting human needs is understanding that true substance is spiritual and that God, divine Love, is the real source of all the good we seek. No matter what we seem to lack, we can find every need met through turning to God for a clearer understanding of His constant, tender care for us. Since God is infinite Spirit, He includes all right ideas and is always expressing His completeness in every aspect of His creation. Therefore, in reality, none of God’s children can be in want for a single moment. And it is valuable to understand this, especially when lack seems prevalent in our lives.

During the many years that I was working and married, I always knew God was taking care of me and my loved ones. There came a time, however, when I was almost destitute. My husband had disappeared, maxed out the credit cards we had in both our names, and sold a van I was making payments on. I was left emotionally drained and financially desperate. My parents were very supportive and helped me pay off one major expense. But I knew I needed to see through this illusion of lack, and I prayed earnestly for a fuller understanding of God as unlimited good.

Throughout this period, I relied on what I was learning from reading and studying the Christian Science Bible Lesson, found each week in the Christian Science Quarterly. I prayed to know what my next steps should be, and then listened to what God was inspiring me to do. That last part wasn’t always easy, because there were many bills to pay, and I was feeling impatient for a solution. However, my prayers and study were showing me clearly that the sense of lack—whether of financial means, companionship, time, or any other good thing—is a belief of limitation concerning God and His creation. I was being tempted to believe the false claim that God would allow any of His ideas to fall short of what they needed.
