Severe cough healed

A few years ago I came down with a cold that developed into a severe cough with much discomfort. I have always found Christian Science a reliable form of treatment for sickness and other discords, so I chose to treat this situation through prayer in Christian Science.

My prayer began by acknowledging my perfect relation to our all-good God and my real nature as God’s image and likeness and very good creation. I spent some time praying with ideas gained from reading the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. I knew from my study of these books that God is Spirit and that I am God’s reflection. That means my real nature is spiritual and wholly good, and cannot include sickness or pain. I found this statement in Science and Health so helpful to ponder: “A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive” (p. 463).

After about a day I had not found relief, and I was fearful about the condition. I called a Christian Science practitioner and asked her to give me Christian Science treatment. She assured me that God, divine Mind, can never know a cough or cold but knows only good, and that as God’s expression I could reflect only that which is Godlike, including health and wholeness.
