‘The Bible Lesson is my stay in life’
In June 1966, after being healed of tuberculosis while reading Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, I began to regularly study the Christian Science Bible Lesson, found in the Christian Science Quarterly. The Bible Lesson includes scriptural texts and correlative passages from Science and Health.
As I began this study, I realized I knew very little of the Scriptures, including the teachings of Christ Jesus. Nor did I understand the eternal Love Jesus had demonstrated for all mankind, which included me. Studying the Bible Lesson has enabled me to achieve what Mrs. Eddy so deeply desired for mankind: to know the Christ—the ever-present spiritual idea of God, which blesses, uplifts, and brings healing to human consciousness and experience.
The Bible Lesson is my stay in life. Each week I feel it saying to me, “O man greatly beloved, fear not” (Daniel 10:19). I can honestly say the Bible Lessons have brought me into a clearer understanding of my relation to God and of God’s love for me and for others.
