Under the government of Love

Amid the great concern these days about obstacles to good government facing institutions around the world—such as greed, incompetence, stubbornness, lust for power, or simply a misguided but honest attempt to do good—I find myself challenged to watch my thinking. Christ Jesus told his disciples, “What I say unto you I say unto all, Watch” (Mark 13:37), and I take this to mean being alert to the temptation to indulge in indignation, fear, and the constant rehearsing of perceived faults or wrongs of individuals in leadership positions.

Jesus taught that this kind of reactionary thinking is opposed to genuine spirituality and should be rejected because it stems from the mistaken belief that we are in possession of a personal mind of our own, rather than the benevolent Mind of God, the one divine Mind. Jesus understood that all true consciousness comes from God, the one Mind, and therefore expresses His goodness, and that all right thinking results from recognizing man as spiritual, as Mind’s unerring reflection.

It’s such a help to consider the beautiful attributes of divine Mind, which include intelligence, wisdom, charitableness, and humility. As our understanding of God grows to see that divine Mind is governing the universe, and that man is Mind’s expression, we can effectively challenge the specious arguments of mortal thinking that claim man is mortal, with a human will that can make faulty decisions. Fear dissolves before the confidence, inspired by divine Love, of Love’s ever-presence and all-encompassing care for each one of us. Indignation vanishes before the realization that man’s true nature expresses God’s nature and the unerring guidance of divine Principle. And the tendency to fault-find falls away as we recognize every individual’s oneness with the great Mind of Love. Each is, in his true being, the perfect reflection of divine Love.
