Prayer during election heals irritation and sore
I have been so comforted to know that God is my Father and Mother. It is a constant awareness that enables me to feel companioned and cared for wherever I am and at any time. I like to remember that God is the Father and Mother of each individual, and that not one of us is more or less important than another. We are all dear to and cherished by our heavenly Parent, who meets each of our needs perfectly.
Some months ago, when there was so much in the news about the elections in the United States, it seemed almost everyone had strong opinions. Many people were angry with one another. It was as if the very air was filled with venom and hatred. I was praying deeply to know how to bring healing to this contentious atmosphere.
About this time, I developed a very large sore spot on the back of my head. It was quite painful, and despite my prayers, I wasn’t immediately finding healing as I usually do with prayer. Reasoning metaphysically—as I’ve learned in Christian Science—that man is the reflection of infinite Mind, I realized that I couldn’t become hypnotized by all the political vitriol into becoming sick or sore. Claiming my freedom from believing that God’s children could be in conflict with each other, I strove to lift my thought above the divisive material picture and gain a clearer understanding of God’s universal and inclusive love.
