My angel*
It floated in so quietly, I almost didn’t notice
but then it sat itself right down. Impossible to miss it.
I had no time to entertain untimely thoughts of patience,
too busy checking off my list and feeling rather anxious.
But there it sat persistently and filled me up with kindness.
“Let me stay a while,” it urged, this angel of God’s presence.
I couldn’t resist the hold it had on me. I gave it credit
to change my thought, revise my plan—and so, with this small edit
my lightened list took on new opportunities to do
all I could, to see the good, in this and that and you.
