Injury healed after kayaking trip
Last year I was on a school kayaking trip with my students when my boat flipped—sending me swimming down a turbulent rapid. I fought to stay in the proper whitewater swim position even as I tried to grab my paddle, extra flotation device, and my boat. I was panicking and struggling to breathe, my legs were getting caught in crevices between rocks, and my backside hit numerous boulders.
In the midst of the panic, I clearly heard, “Calm your thought.” Instantly, my thought calmed, and though I was still being thrust around by the rapid, I was no longer struggling to breathe, my feet didn’t get caught in any more rocks, and I was able to catch a safety line thrown to me by my coworkers.
Once I was ashore, a coworker told me that I had come through the rapid the safest way I possibly could have. I knew it was God that had protected me, just as assuredly as I knew it was God’s presence that had calmed my thought.
