‘The government shall be upon his shoulder’
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
The promise given long ago
is still intact today,
the promise of a government
that holds eternal sway.
“The government shall be” it says,
“upon his shoulder”—strong—
a government that’s “Wonderful,”
that banishes all wrong.
A “Counsellor” providing good,
“The mighty God” in action;
our “everlasting Father”—Love,
dissolving fear and faction.
“The Prince of Peace”—such powerful words—
A global world embracing;
a presence that unites and heals
the rifts mankind is facing.
This promise comes to us each day
untouched by fraught elections.
The government of God remains,
in loving, calm perfection.
