Experiencing spiritual peace, even during a storm
When we hear about impending storms and destructive weather patterns, what can be done? Heeding public safety alerts is a start, but it’s comforting to know there’s much more we can do in terms of feeling, and being, safe and secure.
Many times over the years there have been occasions that called for specific prayer when our family’s safety was threatened by the weather. When these situations come my way, I am inspired to think about what I have learned through my study of Christian Science with regard to how God’s universal laws of harmony govern His universe.
In the Bible there are a couple of accounts where Christ Jesus exercised his God-given dominion over the weather. In fact, one tells of him walking on the water during a storm! When Jesus had finished his teaching one day, “he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone. But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary. And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid” (Matthew 14:23–27).
