Symptoms of cold vanish
As I woke up one morning and began my day’s activities, I began coughing incessantly and could feel cold-like symptoms coming on. I immediately sat down to pray about this, rejecting any notion that an evil influence could be present in God’s day, the unfoldment of good; and I began affirming the presence and power of God’s goodness right where I was.
However, I was afraid that the illness would have to run its course before I could feel healthy again. But that fear was followed by the conviction, “This healing can happen now!” In the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy writes about “Dream-lessons” (marginal heading, p. 71). This passage helps me understand that anything discordant the body seems to feel originates in mortal mind, not the body. I saw that the root of my problem was not physical, but mental. And, too, that just as I can wake up from a sleeping dream, I could awake out of this disease-dream as well, as I understood more clearly what was real.
Then this thought struck me: Good is powerful! I reasoned that God is all-powerful and God is good; therefore, good is all-powerful. Health, being a quality of God, is our divine right, and it is maintained by God. Disease, not originating in God, good, is powerless. How could goodness and health surrender to a powerless entity? It’s impossible.
