Divine sonship
Reprinted from the December 22, 1956, Sentinel
The author of Hebrews wrote that Christ Jesus was made after the order of Melchisedec, who was “without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God” (Hebrews 7:3). This Son so beautifully typified by Christ Jesus is defined on page 594 of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy as, “The Son of God, the Messiah or Christ.” In order to progress in Christian Science, a knowledge and understanding of divine sonship is not only desirable but necessary.
As thoughts of fear and self-condemnation poured in, she spoke aloud, “Dear God, I put my hand in Yours.”
The belief that man is the child of the flesh has tormented mankind through the centuries, in spite of the indications given by some of the Old Testament prophets, by Christ Jesus, and by his followers that man is spiritual.
