Healings over the holidays
The run-up to Christmas had always been a challenging time for me, as my husband and I usually have several family members staying with us and we host the Christmas celebrations for our extended family.
I love hosting, and having a house full of family is a joy, but in the past I’d found it quite tiring to handle all the necessary planning, decorating, shopping, preparation, and cooking. I prayed with the idea that it is a joyful task to prepare for loving activities that bless everyone, and we cannot find ourselves depleted in any way.
Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, writes in her book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures: “Mind-science teaches that mortals need ‘not be weary in well doing.’ It dissipates fatigue in doing good. Giving does not impoverish us in the service of our Maker, neither does withholding enrich us. We have strength in proportion to our apprehension of the truth, and our strength is not lessened by giving utterance to truth” (pp. 79–80).
