The Bible Lesson in action
I was quite excited as I prepared for a vacation tour through China some time ago. However, just prior to departure, I received a letter from the trip leader stating that each of us could expect to get sick. This news added to some misgivings I was already addressing because of the trip being longer than usual for me and the fact that I would be far from home. I called a friend in my Christian Science association to pray with me while I was gone; we agreed that I would use the Christian Science Bible Lesson each day and she would pray for me, as well. Once on the trip, I applied relevant thoughts from the Bible Lesson to challenges as they arose, and I wasn’t disappointed in the results!
At the beginning of the tour, one of the travelers seemed to get a bad cold, and others followed. While they used various medications, I took daily doses of the truths of Christian Science through the weekly Bible Lesson, a Christian Science Journal I had brought along, and my daily prayerful treatments. One thought I prayed with from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy was, “All that really exists is the divine Mind and its idea, and in this Mind the entire being is found harmonious and eternal” (p. 151).
