Life unconstrained
For the Lesson titled: "Unreality" from September 29-October 5, 2014
At times we may feel that the world is arrayed against us and we are victims of the apparent circumstances. But is this true, or is it only what seems to be? This week’s Christian Science Bible Lesson, titled “Unreality,” challenges us to look beyond appearances to see what God has in store for us—the freedom of being His child.
The prophet Elisha shows us that God’s protection is available to us all, no matter how dire the circumstances seem. The Syrian army surrounded Elisha in Dothan because the prophet had told the king of Israel about the Syrian military plans.
When Elisha’s servant sees this threatening army, he becomes fearful. But Elisha tells him not to be afraid and asks God to open the servant’s eyes to divine protection. And right where the young man saw only danger, he suddenly beholds that the mountain is “full of horses and chariots of fire” (II Kings 6:17, citation 5).
