Nail fungus vanishes

In 2004, I was suffering from a fungus on two of my fingernails that caused painful inflammation. Over a period of six months, I worked with some pertinent definitions in the Glossary of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. On page 586, Mary Baker Eddy defines fire as “fear; remorse; lust; hatred; destruction; affliction purifying and elevating man,” and she defines flesh as “an error of physical belief; a supposition that life, substance, and intelligence are in matter; an illusion; a belief that matter has sensation.”

These definitions helped me get a clearer sense of the nail condition as mental, not physical. I prayed earnestly to see that, as God’s perfect, spiritual idea, I couldn’t be distracted by pain or destroyed by matter. I affirmed that the only thing that can be destroyed is the belief of self-destructing matter, and this belief has nothing to do with my true being as God’s child. Working this way, I often would get relief from the pain and a sense of peace, but I didn’t achieve a complete healing.

One night when I was on a business trip and staying in a hotel, I finished the metaphysical work related to this condition around 3:00 a.m. My thought was quiet and the pain relieved, but instead of going to sleep, I felt led to turn on the TV. At that very moment, on the channel the TV was set to, there was a pharmaceutical advertisement for a remedy for nail fungus. The commercial was done in the form of a cartoon showing lots of lively little germs with devilish grins. It made me laugh, and it also made me see the nail condition for the fairy tale it was. I realized the whole thing was a lie that had no power against the truth of being, which is that nothing but good can have any impact whatsoever on man’s real, spiritual identity.
