Annual Meeting message heals

It is with joy and gratitude that I share a healing I experienced last year on the day of the Annual Meeting of The Mother Church. My daughter and I were online participants of the 2013 Annual Meeting, and after it concluded, we talked about what had been particularly meaningful to us. We’d been comfortably sitting on the living room sofa together, but when I stood up, it was painful to put weight on my left foot. This didn’t seem logical at all, to be suffering after listening to a wonderful worldwide healing message.

We had planned to do some errands together, so I did my best to get around by hobbling. When my daughter left, I addressed this situation with more devoted prayer. It seemed to me that the painful condition opposed everything that this Annual Meeting of The Mother Church stands for. For instance, the testimonies of healing by individuals and reports from churches around the world demonstrated spiritual growth and progress. I needed to make that message applicable for me right then. Mary Baker Eddy explains in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures that healing isn’t “only for a select number or for a limited period of time, since to all mankind and in every hour, divine Love supplies all good” (p. 494). I could see that I was being called on to be a participant in my own healing, not just a witness to others’ healings. What’s more, I had an active schedule ahead of me and needed to be able to walk freely.

For the rest of the day, I persisted in thinking of God as All-in-all—as all good and nothing else. I continued to revisit the powerful message of healing from Annual Meeting, and I declared that there was nothing in my consciousness that day to oppose it. I retired early that night being grateful that the mission of the Christian Science Church is to heal. I awoke the next morning completely free of pain. The swelling was gone, and I was able to walk normally. I’m very grateful for this healing and to have proved that mortal sense cannot distract us from the glory of God.
