Injured knee and leg quickly healed

About ten years ago, at a time when the economy was moving very slowly, I was displaced from my job at a hair salon, where I had worked for 20 years. I prayed to know how to move forward and was comforted by promises found in the Bible, such as this one: “Thine age shall be clearer than the noonday; thou shall shine forth, thou shalt be as the morning” (Job 11:17).

In order to hold on to the handful of clients who wished to stay with me until I found a new job, I began going to their homes to style their hair. One morning after styling one client’s hair, I walked with her to the bathroom mirror so she could see the result. Suddenly one of my shoes slid forward on her bathroom floor, and all of my body weight fell onto the other leg, banging my knee forcefully on the tile floor.

I quickly pulled myself up from the floor, reassuring my client that I was OK while also prayerfully declaring to myself that the picture of injury was not true, powerful, or real. I knew from my study of Christian Science that God is only good. I was not going to let thoughts of fear and pain—which Mary Baker Eddy defined as animal magnetism, or “a mere negation, possessing neither intelligence, power, nor reality …” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 102)—drown out God, good. Jesus never lost sight of God, and I wanted to follow his example. So I held to this biblical promise: “It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect” (Psalms 18:32).
