All around
The depth, breadth, height, might, majesty, and glory of infinite Love fill all space.*
Early, early, birdsong pierced the dark
and reached into the slumber
of all the city sleepers—even this one,
who marveled how so small a bird’s
love of song could send a song so far,
so far. Yet I saw, I saw, he didn’t
have to find the breath within himself.
All the atmosphere would fund his song,
all he lived and soared in,
the limitless is all around, all around,
the limitless is all around.
Then, while trying to compose
the poem of this gift of knowing,
I fell asleep again
and dreamed instead of
loving, loving, loving—
a song sung with deep breaths drawn
from the love we live and soar in.
God’s limitless love all around, all around,
God’s limitless love all around.
