'My cup runneth over'

These joyous words have provided reassurance over centuries to so many who have read them as part of the inspiring 23rd Psalm. Some years ago, a Broadway musical utilized the sentiments of this verse in one of its popular songs titled, “My cup runneth over with love.” With love! What a fitting amplification to the message.

The Bible teaches that our source of goodness is, in fact, God, who is Love—infinite, inexhaustible Love, that is always available to everyone. The Psalmist understood this when he sang in another psalm, “In thy presence is fulness of joy” (Psalms 16:11). Not only a little happiness, but full, complete, 100 percent (and more!).

The Sentinel’s cover stories this week explore how we can live a life in the presence of God that blesses us with overflowing good. In our prayers to our Father-Mother God, good, we can, as author Bill Moody concludes, “discover how much God truly loves us” and see that “there is never a moment or a place or a situation when we do not have access to exactly what is needed and exactly when it is needed” (p. 6).
