Throat issue healed
On my 18th birthday, I realized I had a lot to be thankful for—it was my senior year in high school, I was school president, football captain, and my girlfriend and I were candidates for the homecoming king and queen.
Later that evening, I was set to play in one of the football team’s most important games. As I sat down to my pre-game breakfast-themed dinner, I took a massive bite of my plate-sized buttermilk pancakes. But when I went to swallow, the food didn’t go smoothly down my throat. Not wanting to give it a second thought, I took another bite and a swig of water, but the pain was too much and my throat began to swell.
In that moment, all my joy and gratitude vanished and I began to seriously worry. Later that night, I managed to play in and complete the game, but I’d never played so little and spoken so few words in a three-hour period of time before. After the game, I was taken to a friend’s house where a surprise birthday party was being thrown for me, but I had a miserable time.
