A prophecy fulfilled
Are our lives simply a collection of random encounters or experiences? Or is there a divine plan for each and every one of us? And what about times when we are frightened and in danger? How can we be sure of God’s presence? Here are some experiences in which I was kept safe, even when trouble loomed large. These have led me to an understanding of God’s specific love for all His children, including you and me.
As a child in the London area of England during World War II, a V2 ballistic missile exploded above my head while I was in school, but I was unharmed. Then there was a near fatal automobile collision when I was living in Bournemouth, England, while in my youth, and I was totally healed (see Sentinel, February 17, 1997, p. 41). The healing came about when a thought from the article “God’s Law of Adjustment” by Adam H. Dickey, became illuminated for me. It was, “all the power there is, is on the side of the law of Life” (The Christian Science Journal, January 1916, pp. 559).
I moved to Rochester, New York, in the United States some time after that. One day at work, I was exposed to 3,000 volts of electricity from a live terminal with no one there to turn off the power. I prayed during this time and felt for a moment as though I was passing on, even though I was not afraid. I felt a sense of calm resolve in my prayer. Then, at last, I felt the presence of God.
