Son healed of appendicitis

First published in O Arauto da Ciência Cristã, the Portuguese edition of The Herald of Christian Science.

At one time, Paulo, my youngest son, complained of severe abdominal pain, fever, and great discomfort. Faced with an alarming and sudden need, my husband and I decided to take him to a hospital so that he would be relieved of the pain.

After some examinations, Paulo was diagnosed with appendicitis, with a medical recommendation that he should undergo surgery. We spent the night at the hospital because the surgery was scheduled for the following day. During those hours, we prayed and talked with him about his true spiritual identity as the image and likeness of God. We became conscious of the presence of God and trustingly believed in the power of infinite Love. Thinking about God’s love and presence eliminated fear in my son’s thought, and he fell asleep.

In my prayer, I continued to affirm the true reality of his being and to focus on these words by Mary Baker Eddy: “Tumors, ulcers, tubercles, inflammation, pain, deformed joints, are waking dream-shadows, dark images of mortal thought, which flee before the light of Truth” (Science and Health, p. 418).
