Abdominal pain healed
In Science and Health, Mary Baker Eddy states: “Trials are proofs of God’s care” (p. 66). The verity of this statement has been proved to me on many occasions. A recent one was earlier this year when my husband and I spent several months traveling in New Zealand, enjoying its summer, extraordinary beauty, and boundless hospitality.
One evening near the end of our stay, I began experiencing severe abdominal cramps, which persisted throughout the night. The wakefulness that resulted was a great opportunity to pray. I tried to stay focused on the spiritual truths about God and man. Through the study of Christian Science, I’ve learned that since God is All-in-all, and is wholly good, goodness must be everywhere—boundless and limitless. Therefore, it must be expressed in my experience. The first chapter of Genesis sets forth these facts: “God created man in his own image,” and “saw every thing that he had made, and . . . it was very good” (1:27, 31). It’s hard to make it much clearer than that. I held to the idea that God, Mind, produces only good and as an element of Mind’s self-expression—His image—I could experience only goodness, harmony, and peace.
