HEALING OF FACIAL GROWTH

A year ago last fall, I was praying about a growth that was very visible on my nose. I had been advised by a neighbor, a medical nurse, that I should have it looked at immediately. Though I assured her I was taking care of it, the fear that she voiced was an echo of my own deep fear.

I knew from prior experience that Christian Science healing is inevitable, but I needed to prove it and I did not seem to be making progress in seeing the unreality of discord, represented by the growth. I tried to cover it up with makeup, but my granddaughter and one of my daughters still noticed and expressed concern, too.

When I went to my yearly Christian Science association meeting, I felt the problem was looming over me, crying out for healing. The makeup was not working. During the association address, the speaker recalled a healing of cancer on someone's face, saying that the healing came instantaneously with the realization that "there is no flesh." I thought about that radical concept a lot, the idea that Spirit is All, and that because of this, matter is unreal (see Science and Health, p. 468). And I prayed to know that the spiritual understanding behind that healing was also accessible to me.
