THROUGH A SPIRITUAL LENS

CLOSE OF DAY IN PARIS

My husband and I were tourists, albeit with a photographic mission. But as we strolled through the parks and streets of Paris, we came upon this bridge—one of the 37 that cross the River Seine.

It was early in May, and we smiled over how we blended into the scene. Whether people were simply pausing on their way home from work or out picnicking in the fresh evening air, they were a colorful community, and embraced us warmly.

The bicycle propped against the railing set us thinking. Did it play a role in someone's commute to work? Had the bike delivered someone to a quiet meeting place by the gleaming water? Or was its owner simply enjoying what Longfellow called "a pause in the day's occupation" to enjoy the glow of nature's orange sky. At sunset, we all become photographers of a kind. No one can resist those luminous rays.
