MAKING A DIFFERENCE
It may seem like a daunting task to feed the millions and millions of hungry people worldwide, which include increasing numbers of Americans. Yet according to the World Food Program, a United Nations agency that aims to eradicate world hunger, there is enough food in the world today to feed every man, woman, and child. What more is it, then, that needs to happen to reach those who are suffering and make an impact?
The worldwide outpouring of support in the aftermath of Haiti's January earthquake shows what people can do when they set their hearts and minds to reaching those who need help the most. Aid workers have worked tirelessly to deliver disaster and food relief. Online donors have sent contributions. And many people have prayed for divine comfort and help. hearts filled with unselfed, Christly love will always find the ways and means to provide care to those who are crying out for help.
Join the Sentinel this week to explore some of the prayerful ways that make a difference for the world's hungry. Joseph Kamenju, who writes from Kenya, observes: "What's needed is the knowledge that God's kingdom is abundant .... This prayer informs our practical actions" (p. 10). God would never exclude any of His beloved sons and daughters from feeling the embrace of His love and care. "All people ... feast on the abundance of your [God's] house," the Psalmist affirms. (Ps. 36:7, 8, New Revised Standard Version)
