HEALING IN THE JUNGLE

Years ago, I was on a two-week safari in eastern Africa. In addition to visiting Kenya and Tanzania, my husband and I had the opportunity to go climbing in Rwanda to see mountain gorillas. The day before we were to view the gorillas, we'd hiked up a volcano trail in the afternoon, to sleep in a sheltered camping area so we could have an early start to see the gorillas the next day.

My husband and I joined four other people at the sleeping quarters that night. Only six people and a guide are allowed to track the volcano jungle area to view the mountain gorillas each day. The whole group had to travel together because we were to hike down another trail after viewing the gorillas; no one could be left behind.

I awoke in the morning very ill. I felt weak and nauseated and could barely stand. If I didn't have a quick healing, I realized, it meant that the whole group could not go and view the gorillas. I couldn't call a Christian Science practitioner (which I have often done for prayerful support) since we were deep in the jungle. But I could call on God.
