THROUGH A SPIRITUAL LENS

'WHAT A WORD!'*

Typically, I avoid photographs of words, but this particular manifestation of the word LOVE, which has so many different applications, intrigued me. I came across it on the wall that separates the Pacific Ocean from Pacific Coast Highway, five miles northwest of Ventura, California.

Immediately, I thought of surfing safaris on which participants share laughter, waves, challenges, anticipation, and the exhilaration of success. LOVE is out there, too.

I saw joyful innocence, promise, hope—inspired by LOVE—in the shining faces of the young surfers in the picture.

The spirit of LOVE is vivid in my favorite Bible verses: "If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me" (Ps. 139:9, 10).

This photograph confirms for me that LOVE is present and vibrantly active at every moment, at every event, at every location. css
