AMID THE AFTERSHOCKS of the "Great Recession," more than a few people are left with big decisions to make. And for some, there are not a lot of attractive options.

Many may now have to seek new career paths, including the possibility of starting all over again, even at the bottom. Others may believe they have no discernible options at all.

Either avenue can leave you agonizing about the painful decisions ahead: settling for demotions, selling the house, moving a family, transferring to another university, or simply dropping out.
