Our biweekly series on how people have nurtured their public practice of Christian Science healing.

THE VALUE OF SHARING

Christian Science Came into my life when I was 12. My mother was a devout Christian and saw to it that her children went to Sunday School every week and vacation Bible school in the summer. My dad had some familiarity with Christian Science from his childhood, but my mother didn't allow him to mention it in our home, because her church had been misinformed about Christian Science and the role of its founder, Mary Baker Eddy.

But the time came when my mother had a crisis in her faith, and at that time Dad went out and got a used copy of Science and Health and asked my mother to read it. She did, and it was as though a wonderful light came into our house. Soon my sisters and I were enrolled in a Christian Science Sunday School. Mother was healed of depression by reading the book, and we girls began to experience good health and freedom from constant colds and earaches. I loved Christian Science from the start.

Although I will always be grateful for the solid Christian foundation given me as a young child—especially an appreciation for the Bible—it was such a wonderful relief to find out I was not a sinner but the spiritual and blessed child of God. When I was 19, I had a quick healing of a painful condition after one treatment from a Christian Science practitioner. This made a great impression on me and my entire family.
