A spiritual roadmap

Despite well-organized attempts in our branch church to integrate the Hymnal Supplement into our services, navigating the new hymns turned into a nightmare for me. In some hymns, even the music professionals struggled. We all made an attempt, but in the end I gave up, shut my book, and simply listened quietly.

I'm just a carpenter, builder, and architect who works hard for a living, and hasn't had time for a music education. Did I now need one just to attend church? If even the professionals were having trouble with some of the arrangements, what were my chances? How could I be expected to throw myself into this Supplement and soar with joy, love, and fellowship!

So, I wrote a letter to the Board of Directors of The Mother Church in Boston, sharing some of my thoughts and frustrations, and asking for some sort of road map. Perhaps some "Help for Dummies"—or at least trails of colored crayons in the Supplement for people like me to follow.
