LOOKING FOR WORK? POLISH YOUR SPIRITUAL RÉSUMÉ

A spirituality.com online chat earlier this year featured Rob Gilbert, a teacher and practitioner of Christian Science from Upland, California. Rob has a master of theology degree from Boston University's School of Theology, where he majored in Biblical studies. He also did interfaith work while in the United States Army, where he was a military chaplian. The answers below are excerpted from the chat; to hear the whole chat, go to www.spirituality.com/chats/employment.

When people come into our Christian Science Reading Room to pray about finding work, I always tell them that God is the only employer and He employs you forever. Our job is to express His qualities, and they will attract companies to employ you. Is this correct?

Well, yes, and I would say, too, that sometimes there may be a variety of things that may seem to get in the way. Maybe we really need to have a major shift in thought and get as close as we can to God. When things aren't developing the way I would like to see them develop, I look at my motives because it seems to me that's the engine that drives so much.
