HEALED AFTER A FALL

One morning a number of years ago, when I was living with my son and two grandchildren, I tripped on the stairs in our home. During the fall, I heard a crack in my foot and felt intense pain. Immediately, I sent my grandson next door to seek assistance.

While I waited for help to come, I prayed earnestly with "the scientific statement of being"—a statement I know well from my study of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy. It begins, "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter" (p. 468). I affirmed that I was not a mortal, physical being made up of bones and other material elements, but as God's child, my being was entirely spiritual, which precludes the possibility of breakage or dislocation.

When my neighbor arrived, I asked her to bring me the phone, and I called a Christian Science practitioner for help through scientific prayer. My neighbor then helped me get to the sofa in the living room.
