NORMAL MOVEMENT RESTORED

About ten years ago, I became limited in the movement of my arms and legs, which also involved considerable discomfort. Since I was a widow and lived alone, one morning when I was having more difficulty than usual, I made arrangements to move to a nearby Christian Science nursing facility, where my practical needs were cared for while I prayed for healing.

Every day I spoke with a Christian Science practitioner and devoted much time to more thoroughly digesting the teachings of the Bible and Mary Baker Eddy's writings, as well as other Christian Science literature. I prayed for myself and for the world, especially in the evening stillness, as I sat looking out at the stars. I poured my heart out to God.

Desiring to obey Jesus' first commandment to love God supremely, I turned my thoughts to my heavenly Father's good and loving care of His creation. I told God over and over that I loved Him with my whole being. No matter how discordant the human condition seemed to be, I knew that in the face of God's allness, it had no power to stand. I thanked Him for fashioning me after His own pure likeness, and for the fact that I was His spiritual offspring—not material at all. I affirmed that God was my Mind, my Life, my substance, my intelligence, and I claimed no other source. I knew my true being was in divine Spirit, not physique. My prayer was, "Let You and me be one, that I may abide in You."
